The Importance of Exercise

Due to the ongoing stigma surrounding mental health, many things often go misunderstood or unacknowledged. One of those things includes the fact that mental health and physical health are interrelated in so many ways.

Mental VS. Physical

While we may not realize it because of the lack of awareness and lack of education surrounding mental health, mental health and physical health affect each other in different ways. A mental health disorder can cause numerous physical symptoms. For example, a panic attack includes difficulty breathing and a faster heart rate. Another example includes the fact that fatigue is one of the many symptoms of depression. Vice versa, physical disorders and diseases may lead to mental outcomes. For example, those with a terminal illness are highly likely to develop mental disorders such as depression or anxiety.

Treatments of Mental Disorders

Mental disorders have many forms of treatment, or even preventative measures. A mental health disorder may be treated using medication, therapy, or both. However, besides talk therapy and the everyday medication, mental health experts tend to recommend many other methods that work for achieving a positive mental outcome. Of those methods includes things like practicing yoga and meditation to those who suffer from anxiety. Sometimes, health psychologists even recommend pursuing a well-balanced diet in order to balance hormones in the body that could be affecting your mental health negatively. Another method used and recommended quite often is regular exercise.

The Benefits of Exercising

Regular exercise, no matter how minimal, can have great long-term effects on your mental and even physical health. Exercising tends to put your mind at ease. It is a great way for your body to physically relieve any stressor in your life. It adds quality to your life and immensely increases your sense of well-being. A regular exercising routine can have great positive impact on those who have depression, anxiety, ADHD, and other similar disorders. You do not have to hit the gym for 2 hours or more every single day in order to achieve that. Even if you choose to walk for 30 minutes a few times a week, it is enough to show results in regard to your well-being after some time.
