Sound Therapy and How It Works

Sound therapy is believed to be a calming mechanism tool using different frequencies and vibrations to tap into certain aspects of your mind, body, and soul. Sound therapy is a soul healing and cleansing practice dating back to thousands of years and can be found in many cultures, religion, and tribes. This sacred practice is believed to break tensions and align your energy inside you.

Sound Therapy in Relation to Mental Health

Sound practitioners believe that we are all made up of different vibrational frequencies. They use sound frequencies to interact with different parts of your body and mind in an attempt to rebalance the body’s energy

Before each sound therapy session, the practitioner will ask their client about any medical history and or current health problems. The practitioner will then adapt a frequency accordingly by using stimulating sounds such as drums, bowls, bells, tuning forks, gongs, chimes, ocean drum bowls, and human voices. Each instrument can be tuned according to what your imbalances are.

Sound therapy can help clear any blockages in your inner energy and can facilitate healing you physically and mentally. Some benefits include –

  • Lower stress
  • Reduction in mood swings
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Lower cholesterol
  • Insomnia

Throughout the years, sound therapy and healing has also been shown to be a great alternative to heal depression, treat anxieties, PTSD, autism, and dementia. Although, this practice is not an alternative to medication, it is a complementary beneficial treatment.

Brain Health with Binaural Beats

At some point in your life, you may have searched stress relief music or even focus meditation music. Then, you may have come across binaural beats. Binaural means “both ears”, which works to allow the mind to feel the different sounds at a higher frequency, allowing your brain to feel less tense while relaxing your body.

However, there have been studies tackling the actual benefits of binaural beats and whether these sound frequencies actually work or not. One study showed that some sound videos of binaural beats online are gimmicks created to trick you into believing that these frequencies will help you focus or will target whatever you want alignment with.

When you see a binaural beats video with two vibrational frequencies meant to be heard one from each ear, chances are you are not actually hearing these beats. For example, 200 Hz in one and 210 Hz in the other ear travel separately into your inferior colliculus – the part of the brain that collects auditory input – and, together, these frequencies perceive a new frequency which would be 10 Hz. To make this clearer, you are basically listening to a beat frequency that is not actually there, as your brain perceives what it is hearing. Make sure not to be fooled by some of the videos that have 30 different hertz, because you may not obtain the effects of each one separately.

What Binaural Beats Do To Your Brain

Some believe that once the binaural beats are being introduced as a new frequency in your brain, your brain waves are compelled to sync into it, effectively changing your brain’s state.

Your brain has five different types of waves. Generally, lower frequencies are linked to delta and theta, which work to improve and boost relaxation and sleep. Higher frequencies – gamma waves – target you to be more alert and focused and improve memory. Furthermore, mid-range frequencies have been linked to improving your attention span by moving your brain waves into an alpha state. When you are focused enough, especially during a meditative state – the beta state – your attention is increased and is in tune to the environment around you.

Nonetheless, these binaural beats are proven to improve any state that you want to target, while being attentive to each frequency. This is not any different than songs and modern music. These all have effects on your brain. Ever listened to a song and felt really good afterwards that you kept it on repeat? That is the effect of different frequencies being targeted into your brain, allowing you to feel each emotion in the song.

Solfeggio Frequencies

This is a form of sound or music that uses specific sound patterns to trigger the brain. These specific sounds have many beneficial traits to help your brain waves align. Solfeggio frequencies are used mainly for transformational purposes and can help with improving your inner self, relationships, and fear of change. Furthermore, it can also awaken your intuition. Solfeggio frequencies include a set of sacred numbers with a repeating sequence of 3, 6, and 9 – each of these numbers contains specific purposes.

These sounds contain frequencies used to balance your energy and allow you to heal. Further, 528 Hz frequency can be used to repair your inner self, allowing you to be in tuned with your thoughts and is known as the frequency of universal miracles.
