COVID-19 & How to Stay Motivated

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has completely changed our lives. This is negatively impacted the mental health of many people globally. One way of expressing love and relieving stress is through physical contact and socializing. However, in order to prevent the spread of the virus, such activities have been limited. This has increased levels of loneliness and, thus, depression.

Moreover, the economic recession has also caused a huge strain upon the mental health of many. During the pandemic, many have lost jobs. The impact on our day-to-day activities and the restrictions placed upon them forcing us to change our everyday lives has, in turn, led to negative psychological impacts. Moreover, newfound fear has been established within many as they are unable to anticipate what is to come.

Ways to Cope

Here are some healthy ways you can try to cope with your mental health during these trying times –

Ditch the news. Although it is good to be informed, the news can often provide information that may cause discomfort and do more harm than good.

Limit your screen time. Most work is carried out remotely, whether it be school or jobs. Thus, it is essential to take a break and disconnect from time to time.

Meditation is key to relieving stress and can help you stay calm and collected even when the future seems uncertain.

Eating healthy meals and exercising regularly can help you feel a sense of control over things, something we have lost during these trying times, being forced to abandon our day-to-day activities.

Ensure that you get enough sleep as this will prevent you from being agitated.

Take this time in order to truly connect with others, whether that be via the internet or even just family members. Call up a friend and check in on them! This is essential in preventing depression that can stem from feelings of loneliness.

Most importantly, maintain a healthy routine and attempt to carry out life normally. This minimizes the strain put on you by the drastic change onto your lifestyle.

Lastly, take up a new activity such as try exercising or even reading.
