Affirmations and validation from others are known to build our self-confidence from when we first start developing as children. Merging into adulthood, we tend to hear less and less congratulatory comments towards small achievements or reassurance towards situations that may leave us overwhelmed. Who says that you cannot do these little things for yourself, though? With the new year only a few days away, it is important to allow yourself the opportunity to grow and bring positive change to yourself. What are Affirmations? 

Affirmations in new thought and new age terminology refer primarily to the practice of positive thinking and self-empowerment – fostering a belief that “a positive mental attitude supported by affirmations will achieve success in anything.” According to Psychology Today, “generally speaking, affirmations are used to reprogram the subconscious mind to encourage us to believe certain things about ourselves or about the world and our place within it. They are also used to help us create the reality we want – often in terms of making or attracting wealth, love, beauty, and happiness.”

How Do You Practice Affirmations? 

Not only are there several ways to practice affirmations, but there are several tips you can implement whilst practicing them. Below are some of our favorites –

  • Start with 3 to 5 minutes at least twice a day. 
  • Try saying affirmations upon waking up and getting into bed, for example. 
  • Repeat each affirmation about 10 times. 
  • Ask a trusted loved one to help.
  • Make your routine consistent.
  • Be patient.

Also, it is important to focus on how you are going to feel once you have achieved your goal – not how you feel right now – in order to truly manifest this reality for yourself.
