Free Psychological Help Post the Beirut Explosion

Trigger warning: this article discusses the recent tragedy that occurred in Beirut, Lebanon.

With what happened recently in Beirut, the international community came together to help those affected by it and to provide aid. The people of Beirut need all the help they can get, now more than ever.

Aid in Beirut

The international community, from governments to NGOs to everyday people, have all gathered together to provide aid to Beirut after the recent explosion that occurred on the 4th of August. People have donated food, water, material, and money. Furthermore, people in Beirut and outside the capital have come together to even offer free services to those affected by the explosion. Those free services include services from architects, interior designers, carpenters, and more. In addition, free medical services were provided to the victims of the explosion. However, it does not stop there.

Mental Health Effects

Like any other trauma that occurs to people during their lives, the explosion has taken a toll on many of those affected by it. Traumas can cause mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Those who survived the explosion may begin to experience many of the symptoms related to these disorders following the explosion. Due to the current circumstances, it may be especially difficult for them to seek the appropriate help they need during these times. Having to deal with the stressors of surviving and rebuilding their lives post explosion may make it especially difficult to process the explosion suitably.

Psychological Help

Like many other forms of aid, many psychologists and psychiatrists have offered their services to those who need it in Lebanon. Mental health should not be neglected, especially not during these times. Rebuilding yourself mentally is just as important as rebuilding your physical surroundings. If you are experiencing any symptoms following the explosion, please do seek help and talk to someone about it.
