8 Things You Wish You Learned Sooner

Life teaches us some valuable lessons at its own pace during our various life stages. These lessons, though they may be harsh, often encourage us to grow into a healthier version of ourselves that is more intelligent, humble, enlightened, fair, secure, content, courageous, strong, and free. Here are eight important sentences to read that, if implemented in your life sooner rather than later, could transform your quality of life to the better.

Important Life Lessons to Implement

Your courage starts to flourish the day you realize that no one is coming to save you. Stop waiting. This is reality. Every human being is overwhelmed with fighting his or her own battles in life. Loved ones, like family and friends, can always be a great source of advice, love, and support during the difficult times, but no one can save you except yourself. Take matters into your own hands, and do not let your life pass you by. Seek mental help through therapy if you need it, go to the gym to improve your physical health, and, overall, do the things you have always wanted to do to better your life and wellbeing.

Your hard times, pain, and lessons will become your strength, awareness, and blessings one day. When you go through the tough times in life, it may become hard to see past the negativity. It may even become difficult to see the good or to see the light in the darkness. However, you need to know that holding onto patience and time during that rocky path will pay off eventually. When you look back at that time in your life, you will realize that it has built your character to become stronger and more well-aware, and that is a blessing.

Stop expecting honesty from people who lie to themselves. As a general rule of thumb, stop expecting anything more than what people constantly show you, so simply, take those who lie for whatever reason for what they are. Do not expect the truth from them, for if they lie to the point of lying to themselves, this often means that they habitually latch onto making excuses for their behavior instead of facing themselves in order to improve themselves.

Save your explanations for those who are willing to understand you. As human beings, we often wish to be understood, so we may find ourselves constantly trying to explain ourselves to people around us, some of whom will never take the time to do so, and some who truly care enough about you to make the effort to understand you. Save your explanations for the latter.

Starve those who are willing to misunderstand you with your silence. You do not need the drama from those who continuously show you time and time again that they not only misunderstand you, but also misconstrue your intentions all the time. It is frankly draining to keep walking on eggshells and toning yourself down for people who have a preconceived notion of you being a person with evil intentions who is out to get them. Instead, save your peace by distancing yourself from such energy.

Your life is too short to be unhappy for five days a week in exchange for two days of freedom. In other words, if your job burns you out or feels unfulfilling, leave. Choosing your wellbeing over your paycheck is a form of self-care. Nothing in this short life is worth being unhappy for. Take the time to find yourself a more fulfilling opportunity, and do not settle for less.

You never look good trying to make someone else look bad. If you have the habit of bringing people down to make yourself seem better, you need to delve into yourself to find the root cause of why you feel the need to do so. More often that not, you will find that it has to do with having a low self-esteem. Fortunately, working on yourself through therapy, for example, could turn this around.

No one is looking down on you, so just fix your self-confidence issues. If you really focus, you will realize that your insecurities are amplified through yourself and your own thoughts most of the time. This is because we are our own biggest critics. Work on your confidence through turning your critical inner voice to a more encouraging, uplifting one.

The Advantage of Continuous Self-Growth

Life is all about progression – not perfection. This means that perfection is unrealistic and unattainable to us people, and rather progression is the name of the game. After all, to live is to grow and to learn, and to passively go through life is tasteless and meaningless. For this reason, keep these life lessons in mind and try to implement them in order to improve yourself and your quality of life.
